6.6. Jevgeni Bauerin debyytti on melkeinpä ilmestymisaikansa parasta ja edistyneintä elokuvaa. Tässä nähdään jopa vilauksien verran siluetteja, oikeassa ympäristössä kuvattua draama, yksinkertaisia kamera-ajoja ja oikein nätti juoni onnettomuuksia kokevan naisen kasvamisesta itsenäisyyteen ympäröivien miesten vallasta.

Talonpoika haluaisi naimisiin, mutta emäntäpä vaatii vastalahjaksi tsaarittaren kenkiä, mitä tietenkin lähdetään sitten hakemaan veijarimaisen lentävän taskupaholaisen eli kotipirun avustamana. Voitte pitää hobittinne, minä katson mieluummin tällaista fantasiaa.

3.6. Tätä leffaa on tituleerattu joskus myös ensimmäiseksi noir-leffaksi, minkä tyylittelyn ja aihepiirin puolesta myös hyvin ymmärtää. Nykysilmään tarina on vain aikamoista saippuaa ja kaikenlainen suora toiminta loistaa poissaolollaan.
