It must've come as a surprise how well Genesis managed to deal with the loss of Peter Gabriel. Like I wrote before, the main problem with Genesis was too many chefs to begin with, so it only makes sense, that A Trick of the Tail is a magnificent album even if one of the main driving forces of the band is gone.

I think Peter Hammill is a huge hidden gem for anyone interested in more punkish prog rock. Hammill was always more raw and intense than other musicians of his time, but once the whole prog went out of fashion he really started finding his voice. Do not be fooled by the simplicity: this is still highly smart, artistic and creative music, just rawer and darker than most what had come before.
And it's not about guitar riffs or blast beats like most cliche musicians tend to have it in our time, but the whole production sounds very dark, kind of hollow and depressing. Now that is very smart musicianship.
