Erich Ludendorff is widely remembered as a stereotypical evil general of the Great War and as a radical lunatic who supported Hitler after the WW1, but before his radicalization and mental downfall he was a celebrated soldier and a mastermind contributing MASSIVELY to the German war effort. Ludendorff and Hindenburg formed a legendary duo, where Ludendorff's forte was his intellectual prowess while Hindenburg took care of the decision making and leadership. Hindenburg described their professional relationship as a "happy marriage". In his autobiographical book Ludendorff tells about his frustration during the war time, when his close friend and colleague Hindenburg was hailed as a hero while Ludendorff himself took blame and public hatred for everything that went wrong in Germany even if things didn't have anything to do with him. Also, Ludendorff wasn't born into an entitled noble family and he had to actually earn everything he achieved in life, so he was a very cynical and bitter man, which most likely contributed to his later extreme views.

I expected a praise of militarism and nationalism, but nope. Hindenburg's autobiography is an epic tale of a man, who grew from a schoolboy into a mighty warlord and how the dynasty and the empire fell apart at the end. This story is epic, and Hindenburg himself has a wonderfully laconic sense of humor. I think the most interesting bits are the ones about some minor everyday things and anecdotes that can't be found anywhere else, my favourite being the part where the tells about his common workday as a field marshal, Kaiser's right hand man and de facto dictator, it's hilarious. Paul von Hindenburg also despised war criminals and tried with all his power to stop Armenian and Assyrian genocide from happening, but failed because it was deemed Turkish internal politics and thus it was out of his and Kaiser's reach. Mad respect.

21.10. I think this album is massively overlooked even here in Finland. It's not thrash or death, but more like rocking heavy metal with great lyrics. I don't think there were that many similar bands like Valonkantajat, so they stood out, and I was probably the only one who actively listened to their music when they were still active. Well, there probably were others, but I didn't know anyone else personally, not even anyone who knew the band.
