A hugely important figure in the modern cinema, Roger Corman made an art out of cheap schlock films and influenced generations of film makers all over the world. Corman also helped many prominent film makers like Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Jonathan Demme and James Cameron get their start in the industry. In many ways I highly respect his ability to create something good and entertaining from just about anything by sheer will power and hard work alone.

Jack Dempsey was born into a poor family and lived his youth as a hobo doing whatever odd jobs he happened to find himself. After he began his career as a boxer he became something of a national hero and one of the biggest icons of his time. Even today he is considered something of an early model of a modern sportstar and fighter with hardcore attitude. During the Great Depression he lost all of his fortunes and ended up homeless again, but thanks to his reputation and sheer will he managed to climb back up even higher than before, this time as a businessman and all around king of boxing. Mike Tyson is a huge fan of Jack Dempsey.

10.10. I don't care what people say, I found this novel extremely boring, like really really really bad snorefest. It might just be the translation or cultural things, but I just didn't feel this one at all. Shit happens.

8.10. A near perfect academic introduction to the wonderful world of Assyriology. In case you're new to this stuff this book will probably exhaust and overwhelm you with all the details, but if you're a nerd like me and you already know these things inside and out, then you'll likely enjoy it and learn something new while reading it.

4.10. A fantastic autobiographical novel. Mike Tyson used to nobody destined to die young either by drugs or gang violence until some boxing coach noticed his talent and introduced Mike to his friend Cus D'Amato who ended up becoming a father figure for the young athlete. After Mike became a star his life started to crumble down with drug and sex addiction, business failures and bad relationships. At one point he ended up in jail for allegedly raping a young woman, which might have been just another case of greedy girl accusing a rich and famous man to leech him off his money. Mike had lots of those kinds of women around him all the time.
