Morrissey is the man. He has a working class background, but he also has a very high class taste in art. Morrissey also represents the original punk ethics without being a punk rocker: that is authenticity, being true to yourself. I have always thought Morrissey is an exceptional artist both as a musician and as a lyricist: he is like a radical version of Mark Knopfler, who can write interesting and highly meaningful lyrics about anything, and true to his style they always represent strong opinions, irony or otherwise cruel reality of things, and many people hate him for it, and I mean with passion. I don't agree with everything Morrissey has said over the years, but I do respect him as a truly authentic man and a great unconventional artist.
